The Rising Sun girls basketball team faced too tough of a task on Senior Night.
Newark Charter, with no seniors on its roster and a star freshman point guard and eighth grader in the starting lineup, topped the Tigers 37-20 Friday night. Perryville boys basketball coach Charles Givens Sr. recorded the 400th victory of his distinguished career as the Panthers pummeled visiting North Harford 56-31 on Senior Night Wednesday.
Senior Night was a success.
The Rising Sun boys basketball team made eight three-pointers and never trailed during a 59-54 triumph over visiting Bohemia Manor Friday night. Rising Sun's wrestling team split two matches last Thursday.
The Tigers lost 38-32 to Harford Tech in the last match of the double dual meet. In the first quarter of the Monday, February 8 game between Perryville and Elkton, the host Panthers only had one more point than they had technical fouls called against them.
Although Perryville performed much better in the second half, it was too little, too late with the end result a 64-44 Elks victory. Rising Sun's boys basketball team turned things around.
The Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak by winning three straight including a 43-36 triumph over visiting North East Friday night. The Rising Sun girls basketball team bounced back from a sluggish start to down host North East 38-25 Thursday night.
It was fitting it happened on Groundhog Day.
Like Bill Murray's character in the popular movie, the Perryville boys basketball team experienced déja vu Tuesday night, February 2. The Panthers engineered another comeback from an early double-digit deficit to top North East Trailing 16-2, the Panthers rallied for a 42-37 triumph over the visiting Indians. |
